Awakening to Your True Self: Exploring Limitless Possibilities
Jun 25, 2024
In my last blog, I touched on a Howard Thurman quote that encouraged me to explore “what makes me come alive.” Through that exploration, I realized that I’m most alive when I am just “being” with someone, finding opportunities to feed their divine spark by reflecting back what I feel, see, and hear. As transformative as that realization was, I wasn’t sure how to act on that information. Not too long ago, I would have jumped into a rigid, formulaic process that would have produced goals, objectives, measures, and mitigated risks. I’d walk away with a plan. But I didn’t need a plan; I needed to transcend the limitations imposed by my existing paradigm (a.k.a. my worldview).
Let me start by acknowledging that the insights I’m about to share didn’t come overnight. As mentioned in previous blogs, the path to healing and purpose isn’t linear. Just when I think I understand something, the Universe places it back in my path so I can apply what I’ve learned and dig a little deeper into the intended lesson. What I’m about to share is a compilation of lessons learned throughout my life. But before we dig into the approach, we must acknowledge our governing construct. So, I’ve shared some fundamental “prerequisites.”
Prerequisites
Understanding the Mind:
Science suggests that around 90-95% of cognitive activity is unconscious. Our unconscious mind allows us to perform tasks efficiently without expending excessive mental energy, freeing up resources for new and complex tasks. To step outside the confines of the thinking mind, we need to make the unconscious conscious. This means becoming aware when the thinking mind is engaged and recognizing that it operates according to a finite set of rules.
Understanding the Ego and our True Self:
The Ego is the aspect of our mind responsible for constructing our identity, managing day-to-day tasks, and ensuring survival through habits and routines. Its primary function is to navigate the external world by relying on learned patterns and finite rules. In contrast, the True Self is our natural essence, connected to our highest potential and limitless possibilities. It transcends the ego’s limitations, offering wisdom, creativity, and authenticity.
The Finite Game Paradigm:
The finite game paradigm views life as a competitive pursuit with clearly defined rules, fixed objectives, and measurable outcomes. In this worldview, success often equates to accumulating the most resources, achieving specific goals, and outperforming others. It emphasizes scarcity, control, and a win-lose mentality, primarily focusing on short-term gains and maintaining the status quo. This approach fosters a mindset constrained by limitations and rigid structures, ultimately restricting creativity, collaboration, and exploring infinite possibilities. This worldview is so deeply ingrained and widely accepted that many don’t realize an alternative exists.

The Infinite Game
In contrast, the infinite game embraces life as an ongoing, boundless journey of growth, creativity, and collaboration. Here, the focus shifts from rigid rules and competition to adaptability, continuous learning, and collective well-being. Success is not measured by accumulating resources but by enhancing our potential and positive impact on others. This perspective encourages us to explore beyond conventional boundaries, tapping into the limitless possibilities of the quantum field and creating a life enriched with purpose, innovation, and interconnectedness.
Could it be possible that the predominant worldview is keeping us from realizing our limitless potential and living in our unique expression?
Reflection Exercise: Exploring Your Worldview
Before we explore limitless possibilities in next week's article, take some time to reflect on your current worldview. Use the following questions and prompts to guide your introspection. This exercise helps you identify whether your existing paradigm is serving your highest potential and how you might begin to explore a more expansive perspective.
Reflective Questions:
What is Your Current Worldview?
-
How do you perceive life and its purpose?
-
What do you believe is the primary goal or focus of your existence?
-
How do you define success and fulfillment in your life?
Is Your Worldview Holding You Back?
-
Do you often feel constrained by rules, expectations, or limitations?
-
Are recurring thoughts or beliefs making you doubt your abilities or potential?
-
How do you react to challenges and setbacks? Do they reinforce a sense of scarcity or limitation?
Exploring Limitless Potential
-
What dreams or aspirations have you set aside because they seemed unrealistic or unattainable?
-
When was the last time you felt truly alive and connected to a sense of purpose? What were you doing?
-
What fears or uncertainties keep you from exploring new possibilities and stepping out of your comfort zone?
Exercise:
Journaling: Set aside 15-20 minutes each day for the next week to journal about your responses to the questions above. Allow yourself to write freely without judgment or self-censorship. This practice can help uncover subconscious beliefs and patterns that shape your worldview.
Visualization: Spend a few minutes each day visualizing your life if you fully embrace your limitless potential. Imagine living with purpose, creativity, and a sense of boundless possibility. How does it feel? What steps can you take to move towards this vision?
Mindfulness Meditation: Practice mindfulness meditation to become more aware of your thoughts and feelings in the present moment. This awareness can help you identify when the thinking mind or ego is imposing limitations and how you can gently shift towards a more expansive perspective.
Conclusion
Reflecting on these questions and engaging in these exercises will prepare you for the next steps we’ll explore in the upcoming article. By becoming more aware of your current worldview and its impact on your life, you open the door to transformative change and the limitless possibilities that await.
